Install Ramblr App
Visit www.ramblr.com using a Web browser on your smartphone.
Click on the gear icon at the top and select Signup
Follow the instructions to create a user ID
Download the app from the Ramblr home page (iPhone or Android)
Open the app and login to the Ramblr site with your new user ID
Download Guided Hikes to Ramblr
Open our Web site on a browser on your smartphone
Select a link for a Ramblr hike and the hike description will appear
Select the View (View Details on Android) button at top of the screen.
Confirm that you want to open the Ramblr app (iPhone only)
On an iPhone, wait for the Ramblr app to open, then choose the Download button from the top of the next screen
On an Android, choose the back button on the next screen, then choose the Download button
From the Download screen, add the route to your map and select Start Download
Once Ramblr alerts you that the download is complete, close the alert
Use the “back” button at the top of the screen to close your browser (see below)
Reopen Ramblr and close the download screen (Close button at top)
Go to Me, My Archive, Downloaded to view the guided hike
Prepare for Your Hike
Getting Directions to Trailhead (Optional)
From the main screen in the Ramblr app, open the downloaded hike at Me, My Archive, Downloaded
Choose the Dir. Button at the top left of the hike description screen
Decide whether to go to the start or end of the track
Receive directions in the mapping application on your phone and follow them
Activate the Trip Guide
Arrive at the trailhead and select Track from the app main screen
Select the Guide icon on that screen
Choose a guided hike from the list
Make Photos, Videos, Notes, and Voice markers visible by toggling the slider on
Press Select to activate the guided hike
Change Map Orientation
From the Tracks screen, press the map orientation icon (bottom right) twice to use Track Up mode
Note: in this mode, the map display will always show what is ahead of you at the top of the screen
Zoom in on the map for a higher level of detail
Record the Hike (Optional)
You can use the Record button to record your own hike – it is not needed to follow one of our hikes. To begin with, leave this button off (the default).
Take the Guided Hike
Check your current position arrow occasionally to make sure you are close to the track
Press marker icons on the screen as you approach them to pop up a description
Use the expand icon on the marker description screen (where applicable) to get more details for the marker
Scroll through expanded marker descriptions with lots of text
Select Web links highlighted in blue to jump out to other Web sites with additional information
Double tap photos (where available) to enlarge them
Use the audio player to listen to sounds (where available)
If the described point of interest (e.g., a tree or wildflower) is not immediately visible to you, go forward and backward 20-30 feet on the trail to find it (if possible).
