Google Sheet Instructions For Parks

The Google Sheet for Parks provides detailed data for each park.  You should already be familiar with Google Sheets before using it.   You can use the Help button on the Sheets screen to learn more about this application.  Google Sheets is very similar to Microsoft Excel.

The data shown in the sheet is very similar to that provided for the Google map for parks.  You can learn more about each data item on the page for Learn How to Use the Map of Parks.  Here, we will give you a few ideas for utilizing the information available.  Note that you can only view the data in the sheet, not change it.  Because of the size of the sheet, it may be best to open it on a desktop computer, rather than a mobile device.  We will define menu choices based on the desktop browser version of Google sheets.

Print – You can print a copy of the spreadsheet for your own use (File,Print).  Note that you may need to reprint the sheet as we add parks, in order to get the most up-to-date version.

Download – You can download a copy of the sheet (Download as) in several different formats.  If you have Microsoft Excel on your desktop computer, you will be able to download the sheet, store a copy locally, and make any changes to the sheet you desire.  For example, you could add comments for the parks you have visited.  Note that you may need to download the sheet again as we add parks, in order to get the most up-to-date version.

Filter – You can select parks based on a filter (Data, Filter views, Create new temporary filter view).  For example, you could view only State Parks or see only parks with Guided Hikes Available.

Sort – You can sort the parks using the value in any column (Data, Sort sheet by…).

Use Web Links – All of the links to other sites will work in the Google sheet, as well as any files downloaded in Excel or PDF format.
